Pills

On Friday the doctor gave me a couple of prescriptions and said that by Monday I’d be feeling like a rock star.  And he was not joking… OMG these are wonderful.  He gave me and .  The first one is in a 6 day blister pack then the second one is loose.  By the end of the first day taking these my foot feels much better only slight discomfort and now halfway through the second day it feels “almost’” normal.  I can still feel a bit of tenderness if I step on it the right way, but in general I think I could walk on it with out much if any discomfort.

Tomorrow I get the test results back to see if they need to do longer term medication to control my uric acid level.  Still finding lots of contradicting information on diet… it’s all vey confusing really.

Home Improvements

Things look like they are coming along nicely. Fall definitely seems to be in the air here. Cool nights and warm days are making it very pleasant.  It’s nice to be out side and have the leaves raining down on you as the gentle breeze blow them across the yard and the trees are really starting to take on color now.

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been making some home improvements in the yard mostly, but also added a rug in the office.  It’s nice to see things coming together.  We purchased about 4 Tons of Outcropping Rocks from in Washington Township.

We had a landscaper come out and install the rocks and bring in some topsoil to add to the bed along with raise a low spot in our back yard.  They brought in 4 tons of dirt, which sounds like a lot… but it really is not when you look at it.  We brought in an additional 4 tons after this to finish things off our self.  I think we now have things squared away for the most part.  We are waiting on out tree to be installed in the front flower bed (in the top part of the rock area.  We ordered a Serviceberry Tree which is a multi-stem Tree (or a really tall bush) that produces small edible berry fruit.  We are thinking this will provide some shade and a nice place for birds in the spring.  We hope that the will be out to install the tree sometime next week.

Last week they installed the rocks and back filled in behind the wall as well as took care of our low spot.  They ran out of top soil and used some left over mortar sand to backfill in the flow bed.  We got another 4 tons of 50/50 mix delivered and then moved the sand around to the back yard to fill in some divots in the yard and in the woods behind the house where the ground was uneven.  We then used the good soil behind the rock so the new tree can have better soil to grow.

Got Gout?

Over the past 10 years I have had periodic foot pain.   No one has been able to quite put a finger on it.  Pain in the ball of my foot and the metatarsal bones on top.  This would show up overnight unexplored and without warning.   Diagnosis was “general metatarsal pain” which is somewhat unsatisfying.  Then a couple of years a go they thought it was a possible Motons Nerouma.  Then I had one toe blow up unexpectedly and the thought possibly Gout, but never got a firm diagnosis.  Last week I had he ball of the foot pain return… it started off slight on Sunday and by Tuesday it was all I could due to press the accelerator in the car to get me home.  I was using my left foot for breaking and felt like I had chills.  Got home and went to bed.  Wednesday I went to see the doctor and she prescribed some Naproxen which helped and then sent me home for the balance of the week to stay off the foot as much as possible.  She also mad an appointment with a foot and angle specialist for Friday.  After a 15 minute exams and some x-rays he c confirmed no stress fractures and no neuroma of any kind.  He said I had classic symptoms of Gout and ordered some blood work to confirm.  He prescribed some steroids and another medication to stop the attack until the can assess my uric acid levels.

I hope I can put a face to this finally.  In the limited reading I’ve done there se wins to be a lot of conflicting inforation on diet.  Best advice right now seems like eat healthy, low proteins, low frutois items.   Oh yea, loose weight.

Frankenmuth, MI–Michigan’s Little Bavaria

Last weekend we took a ride to Frankenmuth, MI.  We had some outlet shopping that we wanted to do and we figured we would go over to the Bavarian Inn and have lunch after shopping before heading home.  Its really a touristy type of town, but nice enough to visit once a year.  We’ve not gone to the Christmas shop at the edge of town yet, but we usually have lunch and drive trough town snap a few pictures and then head home.

Lunch for me was the Frankenmuth Combination – Frankenmuth Chicken, Schnitzel, and Sauerbraten with a health side of sauerkraut.  They also server potato cheese puffs with the meal and you get (a fruit and nut Bread) which I love!

There are two shops in town that sell sausages (or a variety of meat products).  Last year we went to the one on the North end of town and had a good time shopping and bought several items.  This year we decided to go to the one on the North end of town.  I was a little disappointed because it did not have the selection of the one on the North side.  In fact it was more like a small grocery store than a meat market.  We looked around for about 3-4 min and left.  The bonus was that the Cub Scouts were selling pumpkins across the street with prices ranging from 50 cents to 5 bucks.  We bought one large pumpkin and several medium ones and a number of small gourds.  It was a nice outing.

The pictures are not that grate – mostly taken out the drivers window of the car, but would give you the idea.

We are about were your knuckles would be in the mitt.  Once we got settled, we drove over to check out another couple of campgrounds a few miles away before they got crazy busy.

First we went over to North Higgins Lake State Park.

The water is an amazing blue… the water gets a darker blue as it gets deeper… but it is still very clear… and has a sandy bottom.   As good as the best Caribbean beach l’ve been to.

After getting to drive the campground, we went over to South Higgins State Park.. it was just as nice.

The swim area runs out about 200 yards and is only about waist high before the dramatic drop off.   Boats park along the edge and they swim on the back edge.

On the water back to our campground. We stopped off at one of the recreational trains to see a couple of glacial ponds / lakes.  From the observation deck / fishing peer you can see fish 30 feet below you.
